Protect Your Name. As an entrepreneur, your name is vital to your brand & the identity of your business. Be sure to secure a domain name in your name. For example, www.myname with .com, .net and/or .biz. It's usually a good idea to register multiple domains in case someone types the wrong extension, that way you can be found. Network Solutions and GoDaddy are two choices to register a domain name.

2. Create a Founder Profile Page. Brand yourself on your Web site. Create a profile about you to build trust with potential clients. Make it easy for visitors to find info about you. Clients and prospects want to know who you are in terms of industry, experience and personality. Personalize your Web site and share info to build a relationship with visitors to your site.

3. Prepare for the Future. Millions of people use mobile devices to connect to their business, when they are out of the office. Make sure your Web site is accessible to these devices and will load quickly and easily. Even if your site is not yet formatted for .mobi, get the name. By registering a domain with a .mobi extension you secure the name for your company.
4. Protect Yourself from Spam. Search bots troll the Web looking for email addresses. This can lead to spam emails to your inbox. Protect your business email box. Use email addresses on your Web site like: contactus@domainname.com, media@mybusiness.com or moreinfo@mybusiness.com.
5. Considering joining LinkedIn or ZoomInfo. These popular, social networking sites give you a free way to post a biographical profile. Be aware: everything you post is public information. You give up some privacy when you post info. The sites can provide connections between people with similar interests. The sites add to search engine results for your name & your company name.

Headlines that drives Visitors away from your blog

A couple of days ago I read a post on copyblogger that is authored by Brian who is also behind teaching sells that talks about creating membership sites thats really do works. inspite of the challenging aspects of his demanding schedule I just dont know how he gets enough time to add such valuable content to his blog consistently !!
In this post he talks about how headlines that sound unreal can ave a negative impact on your traffic. How many times have we read headings like “how to get 10000 subscibers in a single day” or “how to make million dollars in a week automated”or something similar that is obviously almost impossible (considering there are exceptions everywhere  )
So the point is that in our effort to atttract more visitors to out blog and write something that compels the readers to click on our link we sometimes overdo things and makes all the difference. A lot of visitors will simply frown upon such content and never visit your blog. The only readers that will visit your blog actually will be those who are unaware of the truth behind such claims and are quite new in their search for the ultimate guide to doing this until they reallise that its now a child’s play and everyone has to do it the hard way which takes time and effort and most important patience. Yes, one thing I have learnt from bogging that made a difference in my life is patience and I am proud to be a blogger.
Coming back to the point even if you are able to pull in traffic they will soon realise the truth behind all those false claims and will never ever come back to your blog even if you are actually right in your claims in your very next post. Now dont start thinking that there are so many people on the surface of earth and it really dosent matter if we lose some of it. Traffic once lost is lost forever and it works like grapewine. Similarly when you write good content and fulfill your promises it is appreciated and people talk about it in the blogosphere, in forums, social sites and through their own blogs.
Instead of making false claims try to be more realistic in your approach and only claim what you can achieve.
You can read the rest of the post right here in more detail as there are some more valuable tips that will surely make a difference in your appraoch towards blogging and how it works.

SEO Testing – Is Your Zipper Down

Today’s post deals with a much more harmless form of SEO Outting, accidental outting and invalidating testing. To teach this lesson I’m going to use a story …
Let’s assume for a minute your at a ball game or party and your friend comes back from the bathroom, and you notice their zipper is down. Because they are your friend you want to help them out, so in a normal voice you point at their crotch and say “excuse me but your zipper is down” … kudo’s to you for being a good friend right?
Well not really, because while your intentions may have been knoble, your execution had the opposite effect, as you just embarrassed your friend unnecessarily in public. A much better course of action would have been leaning in and whispering in their ear that they need to check their zipper, allowing them to correct the situation without alerting everyone around you. Got it … now that I’ve turned into Miss Manners what does that have to do with SEO …
We’re all familiar with the concept of outting someone, paid links, spamming, cloaking or any other search engine guideline offenses. Where you stand on that issue is hotly debated and I’m not wading into that quagmire. However in the same way that you can cause more damage by trying to help some one by loudly pointing out their fly is down, you can also cause damage trying to help someone by pointing out and linking to “strange” things on their website or blog.
In case you haven’t noticed I do a lot of testing here, in fact it was one of the main reasons I started the blog all those years ago. Some of the tests are pretty obvious, others are subtle so subtle you would never spot them for what they are, but most are somewhere in the middle. So if you see something odd going on here there’s a pretty high likelihood there is a test running. Some tests take longer than others, it’s just part of google slowing down the update cycle to put a damper on out ability to reverse engineer things.
How do you know a test from a wordpress hack … you don’t, but if you see something odd, you don’t twitter about it publicly, write about it on your blog, or worst of all link to it (no followed or not) from anywhere, it’s the same as pointing at my crotch and telling me my zipper is down. Really I’m pretty easy to get a hold of, there’s a contact form here and that phone icon in the sidebar will send a copy of your transcribed voicemail to me by email and SMS, so I’m not going to miss anything. You can ask in a roundabout way “you know it’s that guy in that place with the thing …” just don’t link to it ok, cause even though you are trying to help you just invalidated my experiment.
Lastly and only somewhat related, this blog is not a shining example of SEO Best practices, in reality it’s much closer to Dr. Frankenstein’s castle, with odd parts stitched together in ways they where never intended to be. There are lots of “mistakes” here, in fact there is no shortage of people who will call me out for being wrong. But sometimes when I do things “wrong” I do them that way on purpose, so let’s not send a team of OSHA experts to a mad scientists lab looking for violations … OK
Related posts:

Wordpress SEO: Wordpress Security Why it Matters to SEO In recent weeks wordpress security, or more correctly the lack...

Wordpress SEO: How to Choose a Permalink Structure For this post we’re going to be taking look at...

Wordpress SEO: How to Use RSS and Scrapers to Build Links When you run wordpress or any other blog for that...

Google Adsense Tips, Tricks, and Secrets

I’ve been reading a few forums and blogs about Google Adsense tips lately, and thought it would be helpful to consolidate as many as possible in one place without the comments. I’ve also thrown in a few tips of my own. We start out with some of the basic general stuff and move to the more specific topics later on.

Build an Empire?
When you’re deciding to become a website publisher you will fall into one of two broad categories:

Publish 100 websites that each earn $1 a day profit

Publish 1 website that earns $100 a day profit

The reality of it is, most people end up somewhere in between. Having 100 websites leaves you with maintenance, management and content issues. Having one website leaves you open to all sort of fluctuations (search engines algorithm’s, market trends, etc). You can adapt your plan on the way, but you’ll have an easier time if you start out going in the direction of where you want to end up.

General or Niche
You can build your website around general topics or niche ones. Generally speaking niche websites work better with adsense. First off the ad targeting is much better. Secondly as you have a narrow focus your writing naturally becomes more expert in nature. Hopefully this makes you more authority in your field.
If this is your first try at building an adsense website, make it about something you enjoy. It will make the process much easier and less painful to accomplish. You should however make sure that your topic has enough of an ad inventory and the payout is at a level you are comfortable with. You may love medieval folk dancing, but the pool of advertisers for that subject is very small (in fact it’s currently zero).
Once you’ve gotten the hang of how Adsense works on a website, you are going to want to dabble in some high paying keywords, you may even be tempted to buy a high paying keyword list. This does come with some dangers. First off the level of fraud is much higher on the big money terms. Secondly there is a distortion of the supply and demand relationship for these terms. Everyone wants ads on their website that make $35 or more a click, however the number of advertisers who are willing to pay that much is pretty limited. Additionally the competition for that traffic is going to be stiff. So, don’t try to run with the big dogs if you can’t keep up. If you have to ask if you’re a big dog, then chances are, you’re not. I have used a high dollar keywords report from cashkeywords.com and was pleased with my results (see cash keywords free offer recap).

New Sites, Files and Maintenance
When you’re building a new site don’t put adsense on it until it’s finished. In fact I’d go even farther and say don’t put adsense on it until you have built inbound links and started getting traffic. If you put up a website with “lorem ipsum” dummy or placeholder text, your adsense ads will almost certainly be off topic. This is often true for new files on existing websites, especially if the topic is new or different. It may take days or weeks for google’s media bot to come back to your page and get the ads properly targeted. TIP: If you start getting lots of traffic from a variety of IP’s you will speed this process up dramatically.
I like to build my sites using include files. I put the header, footer and navigation in common files. It makes it much easier to maintain and manage. I also like to put my adsense code in include files. If I want/need to change my adsense code, it’s only one file I have to work with. TIP: I also use programming to turn the adsense on or off. I can change one global variable to true or false and my adsense ads will appear or disappear.

Managing URL’s and channels
Adsense channels is one area where it’s really easy to go overboard with stats. You can set up URL channels to compare how one website is doing to another. You can also set up sub channels for each URL. If you wanted to you do something channels like this:

domain1.com – 728 banner

domain1.com – 336 block

domain1.com – text link

domain2.com – 728 banner

domain2.com – image banner

domain2.com – 336 block

domain3.com – 300 block

While this is great for testing and knowing who clicks where and why, it makes your reporting a little wonky. Your total number will always be correct but when you look at your reports with a channel break down things will get displayed multiple times and not add up to correct total. Makes things pretty confusing, so decide if you really need/want that level of reporting detail. TIP: At the very least you want to know what URL is generating the income so be sure to enter distinct URL channels.

Site Design and Integration

Once you know you are going to put adsense on your website you’re going to have to consider where to put it. If this is new site it’s easier, if it’s an existing site it’s more difficult. While there are some people who will be able to do it, in most cases I’d say if you just slap the adsense code in, you’ll end up with a frankensite monster (props to Tedster of WMW for the buzzword). While every website is different, Google has published some heat maps showing the optimal locations. No surprise that the best spots are middle of the page and left hand side. Now I’ve done really well by placing it on the right, but you should know why you’re doing it that way before hand, and be prepared to change it if it doesn’t work out.
Google has also has published a list of the highest performing ad sizes:

336×280 large rectangle

300×250 inline rectangle

160×600 wide skyscraper

From the sites that I run, I do really well with the 336 rectangle and 160 skyscraper. My next best performing ad size is the 728 leaderboard, I don’t really use the 300 inline rectangle too often. So really it depends on how well you integrate these into your site. Placement can have a dramatic effect on performance. TIP: When working on a new site or new layout you may want to give each location it’s own channel for a little while until you understand the users behavior.
Another ‘trick’ that can increase your CTR is by blending your adsense into your body copy. For example if your body copy is black, remove the adsense border and make the title, text, and URL black.TIP: Try changing all of your page hyperlinks to a high contrast color (like dark red or a bold blue) then change the adsense title to the same color.
The one area where I’ve found blended ads don’t perform as well is forums, especially ones with a high volume of repeat members. Regular visitors develop banner blindness pretty quickly. One ‘trick’ to keep the ads from being ignored is to randomize the color and even the placement. As with any of the decisions about location, placement and color it’s a trade off. How much do you emphasize the ads without annoying your visitors. Remember it’s better to have a 1% CTR with 500 regular visitors as opposed to a 5% CTR with 50 visitors. TIP: For forums try placing the adsense ads directly above or below the the first forum thread.

Using Images
One of the latest ’secrets’ to make the rounds is using images placed directly above or below an adsense leaderboard. This has been used for a while but came out in a digital point forum thread where a member talked about quadrupling their CTR. Basically you set up the adsense code in a table with four images that line up directly with the ads. Whether or not this is deceptive is fuzzy and very subjective. Obviously four blinking arrows would be ‘enticing people to click’ and be against the adsense TOS. However placing pictures of 4 laptops over laptops ads isn’t, so use your best judgment here and look at it from the advertiser or Google’s perspective. If you have a question as to your implementation being ‘over the line’ write to adsense and ask them to take a look.
As far as using the images, I’ve done it and can tell you it definitely works. You get the best results when the images ‘complete the story the ads are telling’. For example if you have ads about apple pies, use pictures of freshly baked apple pies, instead of granny smith, Macintosh, pink lady, and braeburn apples. TIP: Don’t limit yourself to using images only on that size ad unit, it works just as well with the other sizes, like the 336 rectangle.
Added:
I got a little criticizm for this and rightly so, as I wasn’t specific as I could have been. Do not use very identifiable brand name or products for your images. Use generic non-specific stock images whenever possible and appropriate.

Multiple Ad Units
Another way to increase ad revenue is to use multiple ad units. According to Google’s TOS you are allowed to post up to three ad units per page. Similar to standard search results the highest paying ad units will be served first and the lowest being served last. If there is enough of an ad inventory, place all three ad units. However you should pay attention to the payouts. Current assumption is you get 60% of the revenue (on a $0.05 click you get $0.03). So if a click from the third ad unit is only paying between 3 to 5 cents you may want to omit it from your page. This is one are where giving your ad units channels does have value. If one ad unit is getting a higher percentage of click throughs you’ll want to make sure the highest paying ads are being served there. TIP:Use CSS positioning to get your highest paying ads serving in the location with the highest CTR.

Adsense in RSS
With the growth of blogs and RSS feeds you’re starting to see adsense included in the feeds now. IMHO this doesn’t work, and here’s why:

You only get to place one ad unit.

You have no control over finding the ’sweet spot’ for the ad unit.

The ads are usually poorly targeted (this is getting better).

People develop ‘banner blindness’.

I know people like being able to read full postings in their feed reader, and there are at least a dozen other reasons for full posts from pleasing your users to mobile offline computing, all of which are completely valid. However if your website depends on generating adsense revenue to survive, then bring them to the site and show them the ads there.

Affiliate Sites
Placing Adsense on affiliate sites is tricky. Are you giving up a $10, $20, or $30 sale for a $1 click? This is something you have to test on your own to figure out. If you aren’t converting now it’s definitely worth a try. I like to use adsense on my article pages. For example let’s say you had an affiliate website where you sold shoes. You’re going to need some related articles to ‘flesh out’ the site. Things like ‘getting a shoe shine’ or ‘finding a shoe repair shop’ these are excellent spots for adsense. While you won’t get rich, they will usually provide a small steady income and cover things like hosting costs.TIP: If you find you have pages getting more than 50 clicks per month add more pages about this topic, and link the pages together. Mine you logs for the search terms used.

PPC Arbitrage
This is a dicey subject so I’m going to steer clear of precise examples. Basically you bid on low volume uber niche terms at a very low cost. You set up landing page that contains high payout ads for the related general topic. You are looking for terms with a large gap between the price you are bidding on adwords and the price you are getting on Adsense. If you pay $0.10 a click and get $1.00 a click you make $0.90 each click. To get your adsense ad approved you will need to ‘add some value’ along the way. You can make a killing or get taken to the cleaners with this one, so make sure you know what you are doing before you try it.
Have any other adsense tips, tricks or secrets? Drop me an email and let me know, I’ll give you credit.
Added
728 leaderboard works very well if it is just above the end of the
“above the fold” area on what would be considered your viewers average
resolution/browser window size if there are few other enticing links
above the fold. Makes for an interesting layout but if you’re building
a site for AdSense it may be worth it. We consistently receive very
high CTRs from doing this.
Try to build sites that allow you to quickly try any and all of
those locations outlined in the heatmap guide or at least allow you a
wide degree of freedom to easily change ad/content locations.
via:nuevojefe

Related Articles

Google Adsense: Tips, Tricks, and Secrets A robot combining all the best features from all type of other robots ready to pull profit with almost 100% accuracy on REAL live accounts... The ultimate SUPER-ROBOT, the one the so called "Forex experts" have told us was impossible to create.

Doors to the elite circle of people making a 6 or 7 figure income trading Forex are about to be opened, but they won't be opened for long. Are you ready to join THEIR circle, the one they thought the average trader could never be part of? Because here is what you are going to get:
A surefire way to profit from Forex without actually knowing anything about Forex at all... Forget about hours spent at the computer trying to figure it all out. You are going to get a ultra-precise, highly reliable, EXTREMELY safe and 100% automated A.I. ready to make YOU money 24/5.
A way to keep profiting and avoid wiping out your bank at any time. We are talking about a fully automated superior A.I. that requires no interaction nor trading experience. Forget about all the mumbo-jumbo the "Forex gurus" have been telling you about, this is as close as you come to printing your own money.

Stable positive results ( We're talking about 99% winning rate here!) and maximum safety that would allow you to use it on a real live account without any worries or fear of losing your invested capital overnight because of a couple of losing trades. Say goodbye to those buggy and risky robots that always end up losing you money...!

From: The Forex Humanoid team

Re: The Most Powerful Forex Robot Ever Released!

Date: , 08.34 a.m.

Dear friend,

We hear from forex traders every day who only want one thing - a hassle-free, low risk and reliable EA capable of generating long term profits!

They want something that:

1. Does not require any previous experience or special skills.
2. Does not involve high risks.
3. Does not require hours in front of the computer.
4. Does not require much money to get started.
5. Most Important: Can generate overtime a 6 figure per year income for years to come!

And you know what? I cannot blame them. People DON'T want to risk their hard earned cash on some buggy and unreliable Expert Advisor, they want to have the freedom to make money anytime they wish and they never want to work a poorly paid 9-5 job another day in their life.

But let me tell you the truth, in all the years we have been involved with Forex, we have literally tried hundreds of systems and automated software and never found anything that fully met those 5 criterias. That's exactly why we knew that we had to take matters into our own hands and create the "perfect robot".

Probably like yourself, in the early days we've tried out all sorts of Forex systems that promised to give you everything you needed to make buck loads of money trading Forex. We've joined every so called "Forex mentor program" out there. And, of course, we've given many shots to those slick-looking Forex robots that supposedly will take care of everything for you (some costing over $1,997!).

And like you, we learned the hard way that...

"NOT one robot had what was needed to generate long term profits!"

If you've looked into Forex forums, read reviews, read books, used software, bots, mentor programs etc, you will know by now that there are systems for all sorts of markets and with all sorts of features and benefits... And you know by know that there is literally tons of Forex related product created by people ready to take your money for practically nothing in return...

...Leaving YOU with hours of hair-pulling frustration and an even emptier Forex account!

And that's if you are lucky. Sometimes you are also left with massive credit card bills to pay, because you have tried to give this or that system "one final shot".

But first of all...

Google In-Game Advertising

Join a network tailored for web-based games: Google has focused on building a network and ad technology specifically for games played within the browser.

Build a business model while respecting your users: Independent research has shown that most users do not have a negative opinion of in-game advertising and will watch video ads exchange for free game play. When he moved to San Francisco in 1997, he continued his passion for teaching through a web-based business, TestMagic.com. Today he offers online and offline classes in San Francisco for those applying to American universities and colleges. He also offers preparation courses and reference guides for high-level tests, including the GMAT, SAT, and GRE.
Approach
After losing money on the website for the first couple of years, Billy says he made a small profit by the third year. Three years after that, he has two full-time employees on the payroll, and contracts with five teachers for classroom training. Now his challenge is to grow the business and make it more profitable. Currently, he gets about 60,000 daily page views from 3,000 unique visitors. To make money from that traffic, he has tried a variety of advertising strategies. "I've tried most of the media types I can think of," he says.

"Getting started was a breeze, and right away, I began to make money."
Erin Billy
CEO, TestMagic.com

Billy doesn't like subjecting his users to annoying pop-ups and interstitials. He says he "moved up the ladder of affiliate programs," starting with those that are easy to get in, but pay poorly. He managed to move into a more selective affiliate position, but the programs he chose kept a sizable share of revenue, and several didn't pay out for 90 days. Despite the drawbacks, he's maintained several affiliate relationships. He also has a deal with one direct advertiser.
When Billy heard about the Google AdSense™ contextual advertising program through an ASP forum, he recalls thinking, "If Google is doing it, it's worth a try." He tested AdSense by putting the bit of required code onto a few pages of TestMagic. "Getting started was a breeze," he says, "and right away, I began to make money." So he quickly incorporated AdSense on virtually all of the site's pages.
Results
"Good advertising gives people more options, more information," Billy says. "And text ads are my all-around favorites," adding that, "It's great that Google chooses the best combination of relevance and high-paying ads." Now he gets "very impressive" AdSense revenue – about four times what he typically gets from all affiliate programs and ad networks combined. Billy invests this additional income in TestMagic to give his users more of what they want. "I can now afford to outsource some technical and creative work that I previously had to do myself. The ad revenue helps me speed things up."

"I can now afford to outsource some technical and creative work that I previously had to do myself. AdSense revenue helps me speed things up."

Billy takes advantage of two AdSense features in particular. One of them, alternate ads, enables Billy to specify an image or ad server when there are no suitably targeted ads available from Google. (An unexpected effect of using this feature is that he has decreased his use of ad networks, and now uses them primarily to ensure that his ad space is always used effectively.) He also uses the custom color palette to make sure that the ad appearance "fits in with the site overall, because I don't want to alienate my users."
Billy believes that AdSense revenue "has infused small publishers and webmasters like me with cash they could never have had before." And he continues, "I honestly believe that AdSense is helping users in a ‘second wave' of the Internet. It's a great equalizer, enabling people like me with a lot of knowledge and a useful service, but not much financial backing, to build a business that makes money." So when associates ask, Billy's advice is "start using AdSense right away."
About Google AdSense
Google AdSense is a program enabling online businesses to earn revenue from serving ads precisely targeted to specific web content and search pages. A broad universe of sites profit from AdSense, with service levels ranging from online sign-up to dedicated support management. It’s not unlike 10 years ago when companies finally started to “get” the need for a company web site. And just like a web site, building it doesn’t mean they will come, so the logicial next step is:

“Once you start a social media effort, how do you promote it?”

The reason for a company or brand’s social media participation, the audience they’re trying to reach, budget/resources and the actual social platforms being used will all flavor how a social media program can and should be promoted. This can be resolved with a few key questions that should be a part of a social media strategy:

1. What is the primary goal? Secondary goals?
2. Where does the target audience spend their time on the social web and what do they do there?
3. On what social platforms is your company already participating?
4. What existing resources can be repurposed or adjusted and what new resources will you need to forecast and budget for?

As a tactical example, let’s say a fan page has been created on Facebook to promote a specific brand / product. The promotion of that fan page could be accomplished through:

On – Facebook:

* Facebook advertising
* Contest or giveaway promotions that encourage fans to share links back to the fan page
* Participation in groups and other fan pages that reach the audience being targeted
* Leverage mailing lists of other group or fan pages for the same brand
* Creation of a widget that provides the ability to interact, offers value and invites users back to the fan page.

Off – Facebook:

* PPC on major search engines to a landing page
* SEO and link building to landing pages
* Press release optimization & promotion
* Email promotions to segmented lists
* Cross promotion to Facebook fan page from other social media properties

Of course, there are many other Facebook marketing tips available, so check them out.

Another example might involve a newly launched company blog. A blog should have content when it goes live, so anywhere from 5-15 posts can provide a good kickstart. Those pre-launch blog posts are great practice to iron out everything from creating an editorial schedule to familiarity with the blogging process itself for contributors.

Getting attention to a new blog with content can involve both active and passive blog marketing tactics:

* Make valuable comments on other relevant and influential blogs with a similar target audience. Comment forms often include the opportunity to link back to your blog.
* Link out to other influential blogs from your own blog posts and/or a blog roll. They’ll notice.
* Leverage other social channels that you’re participating in (such as Twitter) to promote particularly useful blog content.
* Contribute posts to other blogs. This builds your visibility to a new audience and links back to your blog.
* Include the blog URL everywhere you post your web site address: online AND offline.
* Have employees add the blog URL to their email signatures as well as online profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter)
* Write great content on a regular basis. There’s no substitutre for attracting attention than publishing content worth sharing and linking to.
* Contact existing customers, marketing partners and industry peers and let them know you’ve launched a blog. Profile them in a blog post to give extra meaning and incentive to pay attention.
* Promote your new blog and the value of its content via email to prospect or customer lists.
* With PR efforts such as media relations pitching of journalists or press releases, include a link to your blog in those communications

This is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ongoing blog content marketing and promotion.

The key to answering the “how do we promote our social participation” question is directly tied to goals, audience, tactics and resources. Promotion will impact awareness, buzz and traffic directly and indirectly. Analytics and monitoring need to be in place from the start as well as ongoing to track progress and refine just like any other digital marketing effort.

Tips-Tips to Optimize Adsense Units

Adsense is one of the most common revenue generators for blogs and websites. Usually you can drastically improve your click-through rate and overall earnings by positioning the ads wisely, by improving the content targeting or by optimizing the ad units directly. Below I will cover the last point, how to optimize the Adsense units with 8 simple tips:

1. The three top performing ad units are: 336×280 large rectangle, 300×250 inline
rectangle and 160×600 wide skyscraper. Consider using those units if possible, but
bear in mind that other formats might be more suitable for your website design.

2. The most successful link color is blue. This fact is connected with the roots of
the Internet where all major websites used to feature blue links.

3. Apart from blue links you can also use a link color that matches the pattern of
your website (i.e. If you use green links make the Adsense links of the same
color).

4. As a general rule of thumb, blend (no border, same background) your Adsense units
if your website has a light color scheme and contrast (border, contrasting
background) the units if you are using a dark color scheme

5. If the ads are placed within the content you should avoid using borders while ad
units outside of the content can use borders to call attention.

6. If your website has mainly repeat visitors (like Forums) you can rotate the
background color of the units to reduce ad blindness

7. Consider removing the “Advertise on this site” message from your units. This can
be done on the control panel under the “My Account” section, disabling the “Onsite
Advertiser Sign-Up” feature.

8. Test, test and test. Every website is unique so make sure you test with different
colors and formats and track the results to fine tune your Adsense units.

Increase Your Google Page Rank & Search Engine Rankings?

"Are You Looking For Good One-Way Links That Won't Cost You an Arm and a Leg?"

rankly, I'm puzzled why no one thought of this before?! Let me explain how we're able to offer $1200 links for $130 and why no one else on the internet is doing it!

But first, here's what you NEED to know about Pagerank...

Page Rank is very simple:

1) Increase the Page Rank linking to your site
2) Your site's Page Rank goes up
3) Magically Your Rankings and traffic go up too!

So lets keep it simple. You buy text links with Page Rank to increase your own Page Rank and traffic - that's it!

When you increase Page Rank your organic search engine traffic goes through the roof! Typically, if you can beat your competitors Page Rank on Google, you can beat his ranking.

Organic Search Engine Traffic is simply put Free Traffic. People arrive at your website because they typed in a keyword or a phrase that is relevant to your website, and because your site had proper optimization, your site shows up in the first few positions of the search results and gets the click-thru from the searcher.

4 Good Reasons Why You Should Focus On
Organic Search Engine Rankings

Organic Search Engine Traffic Is...

*

100% Free! (You don't have to pay for traffic)

*

100% Targeted! (What could be more targeted than a person who actually SEARCHED for what you're offering?)

*

100% Auto-pilot! (You don't have to send any emails or place any ads. Your visitors will come round the clock regardless of where you are or what you're doing)

*

100% Hassle Free! (You don't have deal with SPAM issues like having your website being blacklisted just because of some fruitcake who forgot that he opted in...)

"I'd Crawl On My NAKED KNEES Over BROKEN GLASS Before Paying Monthly For a
Link Ever Again!"

Look, I've been where you are.

Again and again through listening to all the search engine gurus, ebooks, and articles I could get my hands on - The same is always true...

Marketing experts agree that the #1 way to increase your rankings is effective link building:

"The most critically important aspect of search engine marketing is building quality incoming links to your website. And anyone who says differently doesn't know what they're talking about..."

- Brad Fallon (Accredited SEO Expert)

When it comes to search engines the most important thing, hands down are quality one way links. Brad Fallon, Yanik Silver, Brad Callen, Andy Beard, Cory Rudl and many, many more agree that quality back-links is critical for good search engine rankings.

But actually getting link

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is an acronym for "search engine optimization" or "search engine optimizer." Deciding to hire an SEO is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your site and reputation. Make sure to research the potential advantages as well as the damage that an irresponsible SEO can do to your site. Many SEOs and other agencies and consultants provide useful services for website owners, including:

* Review of your site content or structure
* Technical advice on website development: for example, hosting, redirects, error pages, use of JavaScript
* Content development
* Management of online business development campaigns
* Keyword research
* SEO training
* Expertise in specific markets and geographies.

Keep in mind that the Google search results page includes organic search results and often paid advertisement (denoted by the heading "Sponsored Links") as well. Advertising with Google won't have any effect on your site's presence in our search results. Google never accepts money to include or rank sites in our search results, and it costs nothing to appear in our organic search results. Free resources such as Webmaster Tools, the official Webmaster Central blog, and our discussion forum can provide you with a great deal of information about how to optimize your site for organic search. Many of these free sources, as well as information on paid search, can be found on Google Webmaster Central.

Before beginning your search for an SEO, it's a great idea to become an educated consumer and get familiar with how search engines work. We recommend starting here:

* Google Webmaster Guidelines
* Google 101: How Google crawls, indexes and serves the web.

If you're thinking about hiring an SEO, the earlier the better. A great time to hire is when you're considering a site redesign, or planning to launch a new site. That way, you and your SEO can ensure that your site is designed to be search engine-friendly from the bottom up. However, a good SEO can also help improve an existing site.

Some useful questions to ask an SEO include:

* Can you show me examples of your previous work and share some success stories?
* Do you follow the Google Webmaster Guidelines?
* Do you offer any online marketing services or advice to complement your organic search business?
* What kind of results do you expect to see, and in what timeframe? How do you measure your success?
* What's your experience in my industry?
* What's your experience in my country/city?
* What's your experience developing international sites?
* What are your most important SEO techniques?
* How long have you been in business?
* How can I expect to communicate with you? Will you share with me all the changes you make to my site, and provide detailed information about your recommendations and the reasoning behind them?

While SEOs can provide clients with valuable services, some unethical SEOs have given the industry a black eye through their overly aggressive marketing efforts and their attempts to manipulate search engine results in unfair ways. Practices that violate our guidelines may result in a negative adjustment of your site's presence in Google, or even the removal of your site from our index. Here are some things to consider:

* Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue.

Amazingly, we get these spam emails too:

"Dear google.com,
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories..."

Reserve the same skepticism for unsolicited email about search engines as you do for "burn fat at night" diet pills or requests to help transfer funds from deposed dictators.
* No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.

Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a "special relationship" with Google, or advertise a "priority submit" to Google. There is no priority submit for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever.
* Be careful if a company is secretive or won't clearly explain what they intend to do.

Ask for explanations if something is unclear. If an SEO creates deceptive or misleading content on your behalf, such as doorway pages or "throwaway" domains, your site could be removed entirely from Google's index. Ultimately, you are responsible for the actions of any companies you hire, so it's best to be sure you know exactly how they intend to "help" you.
* You should never have to link to an SEO.

Avoid SEOs that talk about the power of "free-for-all" links, link popularity schemes, or submitting your site to thousands of search engines. These are typically useless exercises that don't affect your ranking in the results of the major search engines -- at least, not in a way you would likely consider to be positive.
* Choose wisely.

While you consider whether to go with an SEO, you may want to do some research on the industry. Google is one way to do that, of course. You might also seek out a few of the cautionary tales that have appeared in the press, including this article on one particularly aggressive SEO: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2002002970_nwbizbriefs12.html. While Google doesn't comment on specific companies, we've encountered firms calling themselves SEOs who follow practices that are clearly beyond the pale of accepted business behavior. Be careful.
* Be sure to understand where the money goes.

While Google never sells better ranking in our search results, several other search engines combine pay-per-click or pay-for-inclusion results with their regular web search results. Some SEOs will promise to rank you highly in search engines, but place you in the advertising section rather than in the search results. A few SEOs will even change their bid prices in real time to create the illusion that they "control" other search engines and can place themselves in the slot of their choice. This scam doesn't work with Google because our advertising is clearly labeled and separated from our search results, but be sure to ask any SEO you're considering which fees go toward permanent inclusion and which apply toward temporary advertising.
* What are the most common abuses a website owner is likely to encounter?

One common scam is the creation of "shadow" domains that funnel users to a site by using deceptive redirects. These shadow domains often will be owned by the SEO who claims to be working on a client's behalf. However, if the relationship sours, the SEO may point the domain to a different site, or even to a competitor's domain. If that happens, the client has paid to develop a competing site owned entirely by the SEO.

Another illicit practice is to place "doorway" pages loaded with keywords on the client's site somewhere. The SEO promises this will make the page more relevant for more queries. This is inherently false since individual pages are rarely relevant for a wide range of keywords. More insidious, however, is that these doorway pages often contain hidden links to the SEO's other clients as well. Such doorway pages drain away the link popularity of a site and route it to the SEO and its other clients, which may include sites with unsavory or illegal content.
* What are some other things to look out for?

There are a few warning signs that you may be dealing with a rogue SEO. It's far from a comprehensive list, so if you have any doubts, you should trust your instincts. By all means, feel free to walk away if the SEO:
o owns shadow domains
o puts links to their other clients on doorway pages
o offers to sell keywords in the address bar
o doesn't distinguish between actual search results and ads that appear on search results pages
o guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases you would get anyway
o operates with multiple aliases or falsified WHOIS info
o gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware
o has had domains removed from Google's index or is not itself listed in Google
o requests your FTP account information or root access to your server

If you feel that you were deceived by an SEO in some way, you may want to report it.

In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) handles complaints about deceptive or unfair business practices. To file a complaint, visit: http://www.ftc.gov/ and click on "File a Complaint Online," call 1-877-FTC-HELP, or write to:

Federal Trade Commission
CRC-240
Washington, D.C. 20580

If your complaint is against a company in a country other than the United States, please file it at http://www.econsumer.gov/.

How do I buy a custom domain through Blogger?

Interested in purchasing and setting up a custom domain through Blogger? Google AdSense™ solves this problem by automatically delivering text and image ads that are precisely targeted to your site and your site content—ads so well-matched, in fact, that your readers will actually find them useful.

Access thousands of advertisers with minimal effort.

Signing up and maintaining relationships with advertisers is a full-time job. Luckily, Google AdSense does it for you. Our advertisers range from global brands to small local companies, in categories ranging from Education to Travel, Mortgages to Patio Furniture and just about everything in between. Best of all, once you get started, the AdSense program requires virtually no maintenance.

Rev up your site's revenue potential.

When you display Google ads on your website, you'll be maximizing your revenue potential. Google places relevant CPC (cost-per-click) and CPM (cost per thousand impressions) ads into the same auction and lets them compete against one another. The auction takes place instantaneously and when it's over AdSense will automatically display the text or image ad(s) that will generate the maximum revenue for a page -- and the maximum revenue for you.

When your content changes, so do your ads.

Google AdSense technology goes beyond simple keyword or category matching. We work hard to understand your content and deliver ads that are relevant to specific pages, automatically, no matter how many thousands of pages your site may have, or how specialized or broad your content. As your content changes, Google's ads change to match. And since our ads are also targeted by country, global businesses can display local advertising with no additional effort.*

AdSense's advantages

AdSense is simple to join.

It's easy to paste a bit of code into your pages.

It's free to join.

You don't have to spend time finding advertisers.

Google provides well written, highly relevant ads - chosen to closely match the content on your pages.

You don't have to waste time choosing different ads for different pages.

You don't have to mess around with different code for various affiliate programs.

You're free to concentrate on providing good content and Google does the work of finding the best ads for your pages from 100,000 AdWords advertisers.

It's suitable for beginners or marketing veterans.

AdSense provides simple, easy-to-understand stats.

If you have affiliate links on your site, you ARE allowed to add AdSense ads. You can also block strong competitors.

Inevitably, AdSense is competing strongly for space on web sites with all other revenue sharing opportunities.

If you own a small web site you can plug a bit of AdSense code into your site and almost instantly relevant text ads that are likely to appeal to your visitors will appear on your pages.

If you own several sites, you need apply only once. Obviously in any business one way to get higher profits is to charge more for your product - whilst you have no direct say in how much is charged for ads run on your site - there are ways of targeting types of ads that might bring in a higher return than others.

As we mentioned in our initial explanation of the equation, the PVR Blog is one example of a blog that targets a well paying ad type - ads for PVR technology. Whilst I do not know specifics of earnings I would suspect blogs like Gizmodo who run Adsense ads would also be generating a higher paying ad, due to their focus on technology.

The lesson we can learn from blogs such as these is that they attract specific ads (that presumably are well paying) by keeping their content targeted on the same topics. To over simplify what we’re saying - if you want ads about Camera Phones blog about Camera Phones.

Finding High Paying Ads is not as easy as it sounds (is anything?). Do a search for Google on High Paying Adsense Ads and you won’t find too many sites listing the best keywords for Adsense. The top Adsense users in Adsense discussion forums tend to be pretty secretive about not only what keywords they focus on, but also what sites they run. I don’t blame them either - its good business sense really.

Having said this there are a number of strategies and tools that you might like to employ to help find high paying keywords.

Buy them - Finding high paying keywords for your blog is possible by yourself for free - but as with everything a few entrepreneurial types are willing to do the leg work for you to save you some time and give you a comprehensive result. One service that you might like to try to find good keywords is Top Paying Keywords.

Trial and Error - I know this will frustrate some of you who want a nice and easy quick fix but overall it is one of the best pieces of advice I can give. Try writing on a topic - track the results - if it pays off do it again….lots. Adsense allows you to track specific pages or sections of your blog using its ‘channels’ feature - if you’re smart you’ll watch which sections of your blog are generating the highest ads by dividing your overall earnings by the number of clicks and comparing it to other channels. Keep trying new topics until you strike gold and then dig in like crazy!

Are there Any Ads? - This is a good first question. Despite the many thousands of advertisers using Adsense there are some topics where the answer to this question is no. A simple way to check is to head to Google and do a search for the key words you’re wanting to blog about. The results page will bring up not only a list of other sites writing about that key word (they are you competitors) but on the right hand side there will be a list of ads - these are the same sorts of ads you’ll get on your site if you write on the topic. If there are ads there, it is a good sign. If there are not - maybe its worth finding another topic to write on if you’re hoping to attract ads.

7 Search has a list of the 100 of the top paying keywords (in their advertising program - not Adsense) at the moment. Its a bit depressing actually to see a list like this because you’d have to sell your soul somewhat in order to go with many of them. Its an interesting site to check out though.

Also from 7 Search (and more useful) is their Keyword Suggestion Tool which gives you an idea of what people are paying per click on different tools (again this is not specifically for Adsense but it will give you an idea of what the going rates are). Find What also has a similar service.

Google Adsense’s biggest competitor are Overture (they run the ads on Yahoo) - they offer a service where you can enter your keywords and they will not only tell you how much advertisers are paying for the words but also how many people are searching for the term. This is a very useful tool.

Sign up for Adwords - One way of getting a feel for how much people are willing to pay per click is to sign up with Google as an advertiser yourself. It doesn’t cost much to start a mini campaign and do some research this way. You’ll get a feel for what people are bidding on different words very quickly this way.

Word Tracker is the best tool I’ve seen to help in finding keywords that people are searching for in the major search engines. The excellent thing about Word Tracker is that they also tell you how many other sites out there are targeting the same words! This is very handy as it will stop you targeting ‘Britney Spears’ as a Keyword phrase even though its one of the most searched for keywords on the web because literally hundreds of thousands of other sites have beaten you to the punch. Word Tracker has a free version to trial it and their paying version is even better - well worth the investment.

I’m told Keyword Sleuth is a similar program to Word Tracker however I am yet to trial it.

Targeting High Paying Adsense Ads is an important aspect of generating an income from Adsense. It is not enough in and of itself however. You can have $10 per click ads (I’ve not found any of these yet) but without generating any traffic your research into the right ads will be useless. Likewise it is one thing to identify which ads you want to target - but it is another thing to actually get these relevant ads showing on your site. It is to this topic which our next post in this series will head - Finding Relevant Adsense Ads.

from problogger.net

Adsense Psychology

Analyzing lots of monetized blogs and web-pages i came to such a conclusion: there are two widespread ways to earn money with Google Adsense, here i call them "types of Adsense Psychology". They determine your content managment, SEO, Adsense Optimization and everything connected to managing you blog / page.

1. "Click Vampire".

This type of Adsense psychology means that you need your visitors just to come to your page, click ad unit and go away.

In this case you put large ad units at the bottom of the page and sidebar, make them look exactly the same as the content - including background color, font type, size and color, links color and so on. You make a lot of pages each optimized on a special, low-competitive search term. You may be not very serious about your content, sometimes your blogs may be splogs. You can even do spamming for your blog promotion.

The problems with such type of Adsense pscychology is that:
-In most cases visitors instantly understand what type of Adsense psychology you use, and they don't read or click anything, do not share your pages with friends and do not link to you from their blogs.
-You may have problems with SEO and even with blog-hosting, if your resource is connetcted to spam.

2. "Relationship builder".

This means that you are going to get the most of each visit to your resource - make visitor read 20 pages, link to you from all of his / her resources, submit your content to social bookmarking, sites, put you to favorites and so on.

The goals here are quality, unique and useful content and optimized, but not irritating ads.

You usually need a lot of time to build such blogs / pages, but as the result they are easy to promote, and you get a lot of thankful readers.

I'm going to write more articles on features of each type of Adsense Psychology, and i suggest you to analyze your pages and to understand, which type of Adsense Psychology is better for you.

Top 10 Tips How to Get to Reddit / Digg Front Page

I got to reddit homepage several times, and it helper to improve my page rank and position in Google search results. Here are some tips i experinced myself and also read at other blogs.

1. Unique article.
The article or post you submitting shouldn't be a copt of somebody else's - you'll get no votes for that.

2. Understand what people like.
Your article should be helpful, or funny, or amazing. If it's "how to do something" post, than it really should help dummies and maybe pros to "do something" better than they do. But you can also be successful with some funny pictures, stories or videos.

3. Choose demanded topics.
Posts like "How to make Daft-Punk-style bassline in Reason" won't get a lot of attention. The most popular Reddit topics (according to statisticsfreak) are:
- politics (30%)
- internet and PC (18%)
- bizzare (12%)
- social & other (10%)
- science (9%)
- entertainment (9%)
- bussiness (5%)
- tech (3%)

For Digg it's:
- indusrty news (33%)
- apple (15%)
- software (13%)
- designs (10%)
- linux / unix (7%)
- hardware (6%)
- gadgets (5%)
- programming (4%)
- security (3%)
- tech deals (2%)
- mods (2%)
- news (3%)
- sports (1%)

4. Write attractive headlines.
This one is not easy, a lot of articles are written about writing good headlines, even for reddit and digg. Well, some advices from me are:
- Make Top 10 Lists.
- Make "How to" Posts.
- Write simple, catchy headlines (though you can make big headline to attract attention by it's size).
- Use names (Apple, Google, George Bush, Paris Hilton, etc).

Making a good headline won't give you votes, you can only get them by providing quality content, but it can make more people click your link before it disappears from the 1st page of "new" section.

5. Understand the timing.
It usually matters at what time of the day / week you are submitting. No figures here, because my readers are from different geographical zones, but try to submit right before a lot of users are going to visit reddit / digg.

6. Submit to sub-categories.
There's a much lower competition at sub-categories, so you can get more attention. Submit your articles to the main reddit page and to the sub-category.

7. Check grammar.
No comments on this, i hope it's understood.

8. Make friends.
Add people to your friends list, vote for their stories, post comments. It can make people pay more attention to what you do, espescially if you are serious about getting traffic from reddit / digg.

9. Up-to-date info.
Be sure that your article is based on "fresh" infromation.

10. Be patient.
Perhaps you won't make it right now, try different stories, headlines, topics and time of the day. Getting to the top of reddit is quite easy, but don't be disappointed by a failure.

For deeper analysis and some additional info check 10e20.com and if you're an Adsense publisher, read my article about how traffic from Digg and Reddit influences your Adsense earnings.

3 Tips For Increasing Your Adsense Income Without Increasing Traffic

Many people are so obsessed with getting more traffic to their site, that they can easily forget to make the most of their existing traffic.
There are three key ways to make the most of the traffic that you're already getting and many people have made simple changes only to find their Adsense income has increased, literally overnight.
Three ways to make more money from your Adsense sites:-

Increase Your CTR

Placement of your site has a massive effect on your click through rate (or CTR). If your CTR is anything under 10% you can probably improve on it. Prominent positioning in popular positions doesn't necessarily distract from your content.
If you're serious about making money from your site and have more than 10000 page views a month, it's probably worth investing in Joel Comm's Adsense book which will advise you on the best placements, colours and settings for your ads.

Improve Your eCPM

Even with static traffic, it's possible to increase your income.
Setting up URL channels on Google Adsense can help you to monitor the CTR and eCPM for individual pages. This can highlight some obvious inequalities between similar pages - and you can look closely at the keywords - particularly those surrounding your Adsense html to find out why.
You can use the Adwords Keywords tool to find out which keywords are paying highly and add one of these words, where appropriate, to the top of your pages. Also, make sure that your pages are themed, so you included theme words. For example, theme words for baby might
Seo Services: search engine submission | search engine marketing services
Search Engine Optimization Service, Tracking and Reporting

include babies, pregnancy, child, infants & children. Introducing sprinklings of these kinds of words throughout the content of the page can help improve it's rankings and ensure relevant ads.
Again, for the serious business person, consider investing in an Adsense Tracker software to get detailed reports on clicks and keywords at your website.

Add Fresh Content

There's no doubt about it, adding regular fresh content to your site keeps the search engines happy. The easiest way to do this is a blog - if you're not comfortable with writing your own articles or content - you'll probably be happy with a blog.
Spending time reviewing your site statistics, making changes where appropriate, can help to increase the traffic and income from any existing site. So, don't forget to keep an eye on your older sites, whilst developing the new ones!

Source : Here

Google AdSense Success Stories

The following is a list of the Internet’s eight biggest Google AdSense Money Makers publishers. Big corporate AdSense publishers like AOL are excluded. Google wanted to buy out the idea but the deal would not get closed. Google did not want to give up and launched AdWords in 2000. AdWords followed Bill Gross' model to a significant extent. In the course of legal action Google and Idealab settled the dispute.

At first AdWords advertisers would pay a monthly amount, and Google would then set up and manage their campaign. To accommodate small businesses and those who wanted to manage their own campaigns, Google soon introduced the AdWords self-service portal. Starting in 2005 Google provided a campaign management service called Jumpstart to assist advertisers in setting up their campaigns. However, this service is no longer available, so companies needing assistance must hire a third-party service provider.

In 2005, Google launched the Google Advertising Professional (GAP) Program to certify individuals and companies who have completed AdWords training and passed an exam. Due to the complexity of AdWords and the amount of money at stake, some advertisers hire a consultant to manage

Technology

The AdWords system was initially implemented on top of the MySQL database engine. After the system had been launched, management decided to use a commercial database (Oracle) instead. As is typical of applications simultaneously written and tuned for one database, and ported to another, the system became much slower, so eventually it was returned to MySQL. The interface has also been revamped to offer better work flow with additional new features, such as, Spreadsheet Editing, Search Query Reports, and better Conversion Metrics

How AdSense works

Some webmasters create websites tailored to lure searchers from Google and other engines onto their AdSense website to make money from clicks. These "zombie" websites often contain nothing but a large amount of interconnected, automated content (e.g., a directory with content from the Open Directory Project, or scraper websites relying on RSS feeds for content). Possibly the most popular form of such "AdSense farms" are splogs (spam blogs), which are centered around known high-paying keywords. Many of these websites use content from other websites, such as Wikipedia, to attract visitors. These and related approaches are considered to be search engine spam and can be reported to Google.[citation needed]

A Made for AdSense (MFA) website or webpage has little or no content, but is filled with advertisements so that users have no choice but to click on advertisements. Such pages were tolerated in the past, but due to complaints, Google now disables such accounts.

There have also been reports of Trojan horses engineered to produce counterfeit Google advertisements that are formatted looking like legitimate ones. The Trojan downloads itself onto an unsuspecting computer through a webpage and then replaces the original advertisements with its own set of malicious advertisements.

The webmaster inserts the AdSense JavaScript code into a webpage.

Each time this page is visited, the JavaScript code uses inlined JSON to display content fetched from Google's servers.

For contextual advertisements, Google's servers use a cache of the page to determine a set of high-value keywords. If keywords have been cached already, advertisements are served for those keywords based on the AdWords bidding system. (More details are described in the AdSense patent.)

For site-targeted advertisements, the advertiser chooses the page(s) on which to display advertisements, and pays based on cost per mille (CPM), or the price advertisers choose to pay for every thousand advertisements displayed.[10][11]

For referrals, Google adds money to the advertiser's account when visitors either download the referred software or subscribe to the referred service.[12] The referral program was retired in August 2008.[13]

Search advertisements are added to the list of results after the visitor performs a search.

Because the JavaScript is sent to the Web browser when the page is requested, it is possible for other website owners to copy the JavaScript code into their own webpages. To protect against this type of fraud, AdSense customers can specify the pages on which advertisements should be shown. Google beta tested a cost-per-action service, but discontinued it in October 2008 in favor of a DoubleClick offering (also owned by Google).

Overview

Google uses its Internet search technology to serve advertisements based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted advertisement system may enroll through AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the advertisements are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the advertisements is often relevant to the website.

Many websites use AdSense to monetize their content. AdSense has been particularly important for delivering advertising revenue to small websites that do not have the resources for developing advertising sales programs and sales people. To fill a website with advertisements that are relevant to the topics discussed, webmasters implement a brief script on the websites' pages. Websites that are content-rich have been very successful with this advertising program, as noted in a number of publisher case studies on the AdSense website.

Some webmasters invest significant effort into maximizing their own AdSense income. They do this in three ways:
</sup>

They use a wide range of traffic-generating techniques, including but not limited to online advertising.

They build valuable content on their websites that attracts AdSense advertisements, which pay out the most when they are clicked.

They use text content on their websites that encourages visitors to click on advertisements. Note that Google prohibits webmasters from using phrases like "Click on my AdSense ads" to increase click rates. The phrases accepted are "Sponsored Links" and "Advertisements".

The source of all AdSense income is the AdWords program, which in turn has a complex pricing model based on a Vickrey second price auction. AdSense commands an advertiser to submit a sealed bid (i.e., a bid not observable by competitors). Additionally, for any given click received, advertisers only pay one bid increment above the second-highest bid.

History

Oingo, Inc., a privately held company located in Los Angeles, was started in 1998 by Gilad Elbaz and Adam Weissman. Oingo developed a proprietary search algorithm that was based on word meanings and built upon an underlying lexicon called WordNet, which was developed over the previous 15 years by researchers at Princeton University, led by George Miller.

Oingo changed its name to Applied Semantics in 2001 which was later acquired by Google in April 2003 for US$102 million.

In 2009, Google AdSense announced that it would now be offering new features, including the ability to "enable multiple networks to display ads".

Blogger

A blogger is person who writes a blog (or weblog). Bloggers are not a homogenous group. They have a variety of personal and professional motivations for blogging and they come from a variety of political, economic and social backgrounds. One way of segmenting bloggers is by their blog type:

Personal: blog about topics of personal interest not associated with work

Professional: blog about industry and profession topics but not in an official capacity for a company

Corporate: blog for a company in an official capacity

Blogging is not a full-time job for most bloggers, nor is it their main source of income. A blogger can also be a doctor, a mechanic, a lawyer or a musician, and
thus bloggers typically maintain a variety of professions for which the act of blogging is their communicative outlet with the public.

Bloggers and journalism

The relationship between bloggers and journalists is complicated. On one hand, journalists feel intimidated by bloggers’ ability to rapidly cover new material; on the other, journalists are dismissive of bloggers’ lack of code with respect to neutrality and checking of sources. In general only one-third of bloggers think their blog is a form of journalism.Overall the most frequently reported journalistic activities are spending extra time verifying facts, getting permission to post copyrighted material, and including links to original source material that has been cited or in some way used in a post. Whether or not someone engages in these activities may be one way to distinguish between a blogger and a journalist.

Journalist-identified bloggers view their practice as journalism and believe that they should be given journalistic protections under the law. The 2004 Apple v. Does case triggered the debate on who should be considered a journalist on the web. Apple lawyers contended that posting information on the Web should not automatically confer the title of journalist since these folks "are not members of any professional community governed by ethical and professional standards".In the end the courts decided against Apple and ruled that those who post information on a Web site are entitled to the same legal protections the law extends to the mainstream media.
